Mikki's Summit of Rainier for SPU Scholarships
Dear Family and Friends,
I have some exciting news to share with you. I have just recently committed to climbing Mt. Rainier, with the goal of summiting, in order to raise money for Scholarships at Seattle Pacific University, my alma mater. The Seattle Pacific University, Summit Challenge is an exciting, two day trek to the summit of Mt. Rainer (14,410 ft.) which will take place on June 24th, and 25th.
I am excited to support students at SPU for a number of reasons. Mainly, I want to support people who desire to use the gifts they have been given to serve others.
The first challenge I have in this endeavor is building enough endurance to get to the summit of Mt. Rainier, which is known as the “toughest climb in the lower 48.” I have never attempted anything like this, and so it is truly a challenge for me both mentally and physically. I have begun to prepare by working out daily and I have climbed Mt. Si four times within the last two weeks. I plan to climb it, or another mountain, each weekend until the Mt. Rainier climb. I also plan to double up on this once the school year is over. I have already been given a lot of help from my parents, my Uncle Neil and SPU faculty trainer Phil Pletcher and the rest of the climbing group. I would love other people to go hiking with me as well!
The second challenge I face is raising $2,000 on behalf of Seattle Pacific University. I can’t do this on my own. As you know I am not a filthy rich school teacher, yet! I want to front some of the money myself, since I strongly believe in this cause, but I will need your help to reach my goal of $2,000.
Here are some ways to support me in this endeavor.
- Pray! Please pray for me and this challenge in the months ahead. Pray for safety and that I would be in the physical condition required for the climb. Pray to the Lord that He would use me to glorify His name in every aspect of this climb.
